Thinker's article in the current issue of CatfishNews
(http://wiki.tossug.org/CatfishNews/7#TossugTalk) just scratched the surface
of using Python to automate report generation with OpenOffice.org. Python
is a scripting language well known for its readability. OpenOffice.org is a
famous open source office suite including applications like write
(documents),
calc (spreadsheets) and impress (slides). Who said that automation is not
possible with OpenOffice.org? You can do it with PyUNO!

魔法設計師在 OSDC.tw 研討會現場示範了動態組字的 Java 程式，
引起了不小的迴響。如果相同的技術能進入到作業系統中，任何漢字都
可以用字的部件組合而成，就不再會有缺字問題了！

魔法設計師、Yap 和 Sam 將來和大家談談，他們要讓動態組字的技術
走出示範的階段，進入作業系統中，成為人人可用的軟體的雄心壯志。
動態組字的核心技術，包括組合式漢字的輸入、儲存、排序、和描繪等等，
都有新問題要解決，將碰觸到不少相關的技術議題。

Hi!


MGdesigner demonstrated his Java program for composing partial
characters into arbitrary Chinese characters in the OSDC.tw
conference. It intrigued many people. If the technology can
be widely deployed in operating systems, it will become usable
by everyone, and the problem of missing characters is solved
once and for all!

Next Tuesday MdDesigner, Yap and Sam will talk about their
ambition of doing so. The core technologies, including human
input, data storage, sorting and rendering, have a lot of work
to do and many new issues to solve. If you are interested in
participation in the development of this exciting technology,
don't miss the talk!

The talk will be given in Chinese. The following is the outline.

After the packed OpenMoko talk, we're back to the ordinary
schedule for talks.

The most popular web rapid development system in the last
couple of years is certainly Ruby on Rails. But is RoR really
the best of the best? Aren't there other systems that can
compete, or even excel in some aspects? You bet! And there
are more than one such systems.

The 6th talk of 2007 will be given by Gasolin on TurboGears,
a rapid web development framework written in python. The most
famous features of python is "glue code" and "multi-paradigm
programming". You can easily combine various components to
form your application. Python excels in data mesh-up which
is an important aspect of web 2.0 development. If you want

跨年 party 圓滿結束了！不知道大家玩得開心嗎？新年快樂！ :)

當 然更要謝謝所有的工作坊講者！包括 Edward Liu, candyz, lukhnos, pcman, kanru, firefly, Arne, gugod, erix, bluebat 和阿里巴巴, 雖然有幾位講者不能到場, 但都提供了 slide.

這次 party 辦得很怱忙, 如果有什麼值得改進的地方, 還請大家給建議, 讓以後的 party 辦得更好. :)

Enrico Zini 在 Tossug 主講的 autotools 的 Videocast

Enrico Zini 於 2005/12/27 在迴廊講了一場 Introduction to autotools: automake, autoconf, libtool，由淺入深，一共用了十四個範例 (下載範例檔的 tarball)。

7:20pm 到達迴廊了... 嗯... 今天我比以往都要早到
什麼！那裡來的人啊！怎麼今天有別的團體包下迴廊辦活動嗎？
現場有近百人的陣仗~ TOSSUG 的聚會空前的人數~ :|
看到遠方的舞台前坐著一個熟悉的臉孔... PCMan
原來這麼多的人都是慕 PCMan 大名而來~~~ :D

就在我還沒有找到位置坐好的時候...
PCMan 已經開始講他的 XD Programming - 極樂程式之道
以行雲流水般的速度不斷地講解著所準備的投影片
然後中途停下來現場用 Glade 開始拉 UI 介面...
慢慢地把 POP3 郵件檢查程式給實做出來
中途不斷地解釋 GTK+ 程式的寫法跟概念
gettext 的部份因為時間不夠所以就跳過 (真是 XD 啊)
最後簡單地講了一下 Gnet 的部份

然後... 要合照的請站在左邊... 要簽名的請站在右邊... XD
整個活動在台大體育館優雅的晚安歌曲中結束了... :P

plone 心得分享

今天（2005/8/30）的心得分享主題是 Marr 規劃許久的 plone，不少在 zope 社群的朋友都來了，如 pake、pwchi、joeysj，還有不少新朋友，一共聚了二十多人。哇！破記錄！

本來以為是 pake 一人秀，沒想到竟然是高手輪番上陣：

• Pake 介紹自己做的 Fedora core 4 + plone LiveCD、並逐步講解從 tarball 安裝 zope 和 plone、以及基本的設定方式。


• Marr 介紹 http://www.contentmanagementsoftware.info/ 的 zope/plone products 和對 open source 軟體有測試評比的 http://www.spikesource.com/ 網站


• pwchi 講了如何在 zope 中建立和使用任何能用 python 的 DB-API 介面的關連式資料庫、以及快速的建立 query 物件和表單，整個過程是事先錄好的 flash 耶！


• Terry 講了他為了一個在台中的案子準備的資料，在 http://blog.lifetaiwan.net/Members/terry/blog/taichung ，有參考價值。


• 友聖講了用 LinguaPlone（需要 PloneLanguageTool）product 來完成網頁內容 i18n 的作法，以及 kupu 和 epoz 兩個幾乎是 WYSIWYG 的網頁編輯 product。

用 tarball 裝的過程還真有點長... 還是弄成像 Scientific Linux 的 yum install plone 比較簡單啦！ ;)

希望 zope/plone products 也能有個像 yum repository 那樣的機制，提供相依性分析、套件搜尋、安裝、移除的簡單指令，若能全部都從 zope/plone 網頁直接操作就更棒了...

楊青矗先生[1] 來教導大家台語文，為將來的台式閩南語輸入法[2] 鋪路。

因為這個課題大家可能比較不熟悉，楊先生下週二還可以再來一次，為大家
解惑。有興趣用台語發音做文字輸入的朋友，不要錯過這個難得的機會喔！

楊先生將特別抽空來提供一個免費的課程，讓對有興趣製作台式閩南語
輸入法的朋友能夠更了解台語文，他希望這樣可以讓大家在製作輸入法
時，更有趣味，也更正確。
